The September Issue – the Devil is a boring corporate drone
I enjoyed The September Issue, but not in the way I was expecting. I figured the film would be a chance to see the real Devil Wears Prada. Well it definitely is that, but it turns out that the real … Continue reading

The International – better than I thought it would be
The International is a strange movie. It survives completely on its terrific story idea, which is the idea that international banking controls the world, deals arms, assassinates people, manipulates countries through the debt they accrue fighting ridiculous wars, and basically … Continue reading
Farewell – what a disapointment!
I went into Farewell with my expectations way too high. I can see that now. My wife and I love (good) espionage thrillers and we were pretty damn bored in this film. We got duped by the preview, which was … Continue reading

Precious – a girl living a tough life
My wife and I finally caught up with Precious. Wow, what a great little movie! First off, let me just say that Mo’nique’s performance is so fucking amazing it took my breath away. I’m always a little skeptical when I … Continue reading

The Last Station – Booooooooring!
This gutless film put me to sleep. Basically, it’s boring in the first half, and REALLY boring in the second half. Waiting for Tolstoy to kick the bucket is agonizing. Everyone is blubbering and trying to act all broken up, … Continue reading
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Män som hatar kvinnor)
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a challenging book to turn into a movie because so much of the book’s charm is Bloomkvist’s long, slow, twisting research process, and slowly getting to know Salander’s bizarre personality. I think that … Continue reading

The Young Victoria – it’s okay
The Young Victoria is an okay movie. It’s somewhat entertaining and decently put together. Performances are solid across the board. The music is a little overdone, and I found it distracting that Victoria’s main theme is also the theme used … Continue reading

Love Happens – how bad is a movie if you shut it off right before the climactic scene?
A while ago, my wife and I watched a little B-film from 2009 called The Answer Man, where Jeff Daniels plays a famous author who years ago wrote a big-selling spiritual book but now is a irascible, screwed-up recluse who … Continue reading

Twilight: New Moon – It sucks
My wife and I finally caught New Moon on DVD. It sucks. Look, I know Twilight was not a great film, but it had a few things going for it that made it basically enjoyable from start to finish. First, … Continue reading
The 2010 Oscars – who will win?
In last year’s predictions I got all five perfectly. Let’s see how I do this year! Best Supporting Actress: Mo’Nique – Normally it would be Vera Farmiga: she’s young, she’s hot, she’s blond, and she did a butt-shot in the … Continue reading
